about

When the passionate flame of your youth is in the distant past, are you able to live with it, or does it haunt you? That is the question I wanted to explore in this song. Taking inspiration from my love of synth based pop music, I wanted to create an environment where the listener feels both the drive and passion of young love, as well as the loneliness, nostalgia, and regret that comes when reminiscing about it.

lyrics

Do you remember what it felt like
to be twenty and in love?
I think about it when I’m online
and I’m drunk and tired and alone.
Reliving heartbreak city tonight
it’s an old episode, it’s a rerun night.
And when I watch, it makes me feel alright,
but I know how this one goes.

And now I want to cry
only sometimes when I think of you.
Please don’t die
no matter how many times that I wish you would.

Hot-headed, but I don’t regret it.
I could see it in your eyes and I know you felt it.
There were long days with the friends that know me,
waiting for the nights, oh the things you’d show me.
Like my life is a melody
that was played out by the choirs above
Carefully crafted reveries
that could not amount to us.

And now I want to cry
only sometimes when I think of you.
Please don’t die
no matter how many times that I wish you would.

I’ve been on this road before
I got lost right here before
Oh, how I long for before

Oh my god, is it really this heavy?
Because I was bound to let you go.
Think about it, was I really quite ready to be anything more?

Do you remember what it felt like
to be nothing more than young?
What I remember is how you tore my heart out
and tossed it when you were done.

And now I want to cry
only sometimes when I think of you.
Please don’t die
no matter how many times that I wish you would.

You never cared for a thing we did
Never listened to a word I said
Fast-forward seven years you’re married with a kid
I only saw it now on Facebook that you did
Funny, your husband, he looks just like me
Is he the kind of guy who makes lots of money?
Don’t really care— oh, is he good in bed?
Looks like I’m totally over you
(I’m not over you)
